A GOLDEN DREAM

For many years they planned it
And when they finally got the dough
They packed their bags and flew straight up
To that land of ice and snow

It had always been his life long dream
To travel the trail of "98"
Her's was to find a nugget of gold
A klondike rock that would surely rate

Before they left he oft would ponder
How he could make sure her wish come true
And then one night he had a dream
That showed him what he had to do

To a jeweller friend he took two rings
Crafted of gold so shiny and pure
Who melt them down to a nugget round
That he thought would fool her for sure

For five thousand miles he carried it
All the way to Bonanza Crick
Slipping it in to a pan of sand
He quickly accomplished his trick

With a secret wink to the Yukon boy
Who helped him with his plan
She found the gold nugget of her dreams
'Neath her eyes in the miner's pan

Jumping and shouting she almost cried
To see her wonderful dream come true
But later as she viewed her prize
It's color seemed a funny hue

To a well known jeweller straight she went
With her nugget held close to her heart
He took one look and scornfully said
It's ,just a gob from a welder's arc

With a heart full sore she left the store
And to another known smart-ass
Smirking and looking her in the eye
Said it was only a pieee of brass

After leaving the lovely Yukon
He gently told her of the deceit
The tale it slowly melted her heart
She felt the trick was loving and sweet

As she rose from her chair to hug him
A true nugget he pulled from a poke
For her to wear on a golden chain
And this one for sure was no joke

For those who go to the Yukon
In seareh of a pure nugget of gold
Be aware of something more precious
Then a glittering rock you can hold

His wish to help her aehieve a dream
Helped him gain a treasure ten-fold
And she found a nugget more precious
Than in any of the Yukon's gold
